No, I’m not engaged. I have a wonderful boyfriend who I have no doubt will become my husband. Just not right this second. So I am planning. No surprise there. I have been knighted the role of the Maid of Honor in my best friend’s wedding. I cannot tell you how excited I truly am about this! Everyone says that I am a little too “study” crazy. So to prove them right, I enrolled in a wedding planning course. Now, it’s not that I think I want to be a wedding planner, but over the course of the next 5 or 10 years, there will be quite a few wedding that I will be involved in.
I enrolled in the wedding planning course on http://www.trendimi.com. They offer a ton of cool classes like makeup artistry and fashion assistant courses. I actually got the deal off of Groupon and was able to take the course for $29.00. Just be conscious that you have to finish the course within 30 days or you have to pay an extra fee to complete it in a longer period of time. If you have a weekend to yourself, there is no reason you cannot complete it in just one weekend. It really isn’t that hard, especially if you like that sort of stuff.
I see people all the time on Pinterest with their wedding boards. Don’t you worry I have one too which can be found at https://www.pinterest.com/adurso/my-fairytale-wedding/. But anyways, it is one thing to go ahead and pin everything on your board and say I want it all
So I am sitting at my desk. Staring at my cube walls per usual.
About a month ago, I determined that I will write in pink at all times. For one, I work with all men and the men I work with will never write in pink, so they won’t steal my writing utensils. For another, I love pink and I want to stare at pink all day, especially when looking over my boring notes. So, win win for me.
Working in an office is amazing. There are so many things you can learn from people around the office and you will never ever be bored. It makes you more sociable, and you become friends with people you would have never otherwise met. But my god they set you up for failure when it comes to office style. To be honest, no one ever has more than monitors on their desks nowadays. My puppies and boyfriend stare at me all day from their pics though and I do my best to make sure that my personality shines through. But I wanted more. I went into Home Goods yesterday and spent probably way too much money on stationary and folders and the like. Why? Because manila is vanilla. I am in no way shape or form a vanilla person. If it’s pink and sparkly, I need to have it. If it’s animal print, it’s all mine. I am the stereotypical girl. Sometimes I hate myself for it because I know people look at me and are sarcastically like “yeah I’m sure she’s super smart.” Well, jokes on them. I am super smart. I probably can do anything they can do and I can probably do it cleaner and faster because I’m anal and OCD about my work. I wipe down my desk with lysol wipes like 100x a day and I am completely okay with it. At least no one is going to sit at my desk and have their hands stick to the mouse or keyboard. I might sound cocky but sometimes its okay to be.
I think girls in the corporate world tend to think that they have to hide their femininity because men or other women will think they are a joke. Well, I know plenty of men that laugh at me when I show up with all my pink stationary but to be honest, they come to me with their problems and I fix them. Would ya imagine that! This post is simply to inspire more girls/guys to write in pink. Write in pink and make your cubicle glittery. Annoy the hell out of your coworkers with your sparkles and zebra print and do it with a smile. Because if it makes you happy, never compromise.
So finished my Masters program and I can honestly say, my biggest excitement is to focus the time that I spent on homework to dealing with the real world. I love fashion and I love makeup, but I also love planning and organizing. Pinterest, Facebook, and Instagram are my best friends some days, just because I can catch up on what everyone is doing. (Sad isn’t it). I want to share some of my shopping tips, and organization tips as well as decorating tips. Frankly, I want to share my life. I want to share who I am, what I do and who I strive to be. Sometimes I wish I could take my internet life and put it all in one place. So here I am chasing my dreams. Alyssa D’Urso, the chaser. (Even though somedays I feel like just taking the shot…without chasing, if ya know what I mean.
So when I travel for work or when I get too stressed out, there’s nothing like lighting a candle and taking a bath or putting on a facemask. Another form of therapy is a little something we call retail therapy. There are a few things I have discovered over the years of being a girl.
1. Sometimes going into stores doesn’t help my anxiety and stres
2. I spend way more money (that I do not have) when I go to stores
3.I like what I see online better and I press 3 buttons and it’s on its way to my house (in my size and without pushing people to get what I want).
So what I have done is taken the step to give myself therapy for my therapy. I am now a new member of Stitch Fix. This is a personal styling assistant that picks out clothes for you and sends them to your house. Anytime you get a shipment it costs you 20 dollars. However, if what is shipped to your house impresses you, you can apply that 20 dollars to your purchase and keep the item you like. (PS. It’s free shipping to you and back to them) Oh and another great thing, if you like everything the stylist sends you, you get 25% off your entire purchase. I am traveling for work at the moment but when I get back, my shipment will be waiting for me. I can’t wait to report back with my findings. Complete with pictures of my outfits. Note: I am not trying to eliminate the old-fashioned retail therapy. But for some reason, it is so rewarding having stuff shipped to your house and have it there, waiting for you as a little surprise.
